Traditional Chinese Use
This
product is indicated in acne, which is mostly occurred on the stagnant
blockage of heat-toxicity. The treating principles include clearing heat, detoxication, supple-mented with clearing damp-heat in the
liver-gallbladder, soothing the liver and strengthening the spleen.
- Radix Bupleuri is
pungent-bitter-slightly-cold, pertains the liver-gallbladder channels,
capable of soothing the liver, resolving stagnation, and clearing heat.
- Rhizoma Cimicifugae is pungent-sweet-cold,
pertains the spleen channel, capable of clearing heat, detoxication. When
it is concerted with Radix Bupleuri, the capacity of ascending yang and
collapse is strengthened. So as to prevent the toxicity of ulcers invading
the interior.
- Herba Gentiana is bitter-cold, pertains to the
liver-gallbladder channels, capable of clearing heat dampness in the liver
and gallbladder, reducing the excessive fire in the liver and gallbladder,
so as to prevent liver subduing the spleen.
The above three ingredients are applied as the monarchal
ingredients.
- Flos Chrysanthemum indicis, Herba Taraxaci, Radix
Scrophularia, Folium Isatidis are all bitter-cold. When they are
applied together, the action of clearing heat and detoxication is greatly
strengthened, and are applied together as ministerial ingredients. Among
them, Radix Scrophularica and Folium Isatidis also yield the action of
cooling blood and resolving erythema.
- Radix Scutellaria is bitter-cold. It clears heat
dries dampness, and cools blood, and strengthens the action of clearing
heat, cooling blood of the recipe.
- Radix Ophiopogonis, Herba Dendrobii are
sweet cold, pertains to the kidney channel, capable of nourishing yin,
clearing heat, benefiting the stomach and producing fluid.
- crude Gypsum Fibrosum is pungent, sweet
and highly cold, capable of clearing heat, reducing fire, eliminating
fidgetiness, arresting thirst.
- Folium Bambusal is sweet-slightly cold,
capable of clearing heat, eliminating fidgetiness, arresting thirst.
- Caulis Bambusae in Taeniam clears heat, resolves
phlegm, arrests vomit. They are used to strengthen the capacity of
clearing heat.
- Radix Arnebiae sen Lithospermi is sweet-cold,
capable of cooling blood and detoxifying.
- Spica Druiellae clears liver fire and disperses
stagnant accumulation, they are used as adjuvant and servant ingredients.
The whole recipe yields the action of clearing heat, detoxifying, cooling
blood, eliminating erythema, soothing the liver and dispersing nodules.
Modern pharmacological studies show that Rhizoma
Cimicifugae, Radix Bupleuri, Radix Ophiopogonis, raw Gypsum, Herba Dendrobii
all yield effects on immunity.
Florcem Chryasanthemum indicis, Radix Scrophularia, Flos
Loniceri, Herba Taraxaci, Radix Arnebiae Seu Lithospermi all possess
anti-inflammatory effect. Among them, the water extract of the last herb
decreases the exudates, inhibits the granulation in cotton ball granulation
or crotonic oil granulated cyst in rat by oral route or alcohol extract
given by peritoneal injection.
Shikonin, ethyl shikonin, β, βdimethyl acryloyl shikonin
can inhibit the local exudates at the site of drug application, with
anti-acute inflammation, promotion of gramdation proliferation, and healing
of wounds, the shikonin and its ester being the active ingredients
responsible for bacteriostatic action.
The chlorogenic and iso-chlorogenic acids in Flos
Lonicerae are the active bacteriostatic ingredients. The compound recipe of
Flos Lonicerae can elevate the peripheral WBC, increase the level of serum
IgG, thus increase the immunity in mice. Its extract yields marked action of
anti-exudation and anti-hyperplasia of granulocyst in rat induced by
crotonic acid.
Folium Isatidis yields action of anti-endotoxin of O111B4
of E.coli, Radix Scrophularia yields anti-fungus action of the skin. Powder
radix Ophiopogonis and Rosco sapogenin all yield bacteriostatic action.
Above all the ingredients cooperate to produce the action of
anti-inflammation and detoxification.
