rare substance, a dietary source of three
fatty acids important in human metabolism
but difficult to find in foods - gamma-linolenic
acid (GLA), alpha linoleic acid (ALA) and
stearidonic acid.
Black Currant Seed Oil contains
app. 18% GLA, which makes it a better source
than the more expensive Evening Primrose Oil.
The ALA content is at about 13%.
GLA is a precursor to the
anti-inflammatory prostaglandin , and ALA is a
precursor of eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA),
another anti-inflammatory omega 3 fatty acid.
