Fucoxanthin (isolated from the
seaweed Wakame) has been studied in Japan for its effect on a
protein called UCP1, involved in fat metabolism,
particularly of the white adipose tissue that
tends to accumulate in the abdomen.
Fucoxanthin administered to obese rats caused
a fat loss of 5 to 10% of the total body weight.
In animal studies, Fucoxanthin shows a
promising effect on blood sugar also.
Fucoxanthin has an effect in the formation of
DHA, an important Omega 3 fatty acid found in
Fish OIl, and thought responsible for
improvements in triglycerides and cholesterol
levels, as well as insulin sensitivity.
